the creative community goes shopping

it's a wonderful thing to be surrounded by creative community. Last night at a small gathering co-hosted by Carolina Jurovic and Coralie Langston-Jones to celebrate the exhibition of designer-artist Carla Fernandez collections in Los Angeles; the room was filled with excitement over the design and details of her work. creative people don't simply wear clothes. they wear the appreciation for and love of what makes a piece of clothing whole, and then, of course, the person behind it (in this case a textile designer from Mexico whose work merges her Mexican heritage with Japanese lines...i see some 80's German too). in this downtown LA loft over looking Broadway, the 30-ish people (mostly women) try on the various temptations that lay before us. as one person inhabits a piece, people gather round to experience it with you. you discover together the various ways Carla Fernandez has designed the piece to be worn. it's not just "oh. that's pretty. you should buy it". it's if you zip up the (short) sleeves of this dress, tuck them inside they become pockets and now you have a skirt...but what happens if you turn it upside down then tie it...
