October 31, 2021-- It's my first Sunday in London. Last time here was 2004. The energy of the city reminds me of New York-- the people, the pace, the buildings. I'm on the go. Inspired by the GO. Catching up with myself in this new time zone, thought it time to make some notes on this much awaited trip!
Arrived LHR on the 27th, 11:05am. How are you at sleeping on a flight? ! tried hard. No sleep for 24+ hours. Toni sent a car. A dog walk and a quick tour of her neighborhood before a walk through Hyde Park destination to a cafe for a coffee boost.
A couple hours later I’m on my own. It’s been awhile since engaging with the London underground and public transport system and a bit challenging when your cell can't get wifi nor cell data to access google maps (hello at&t). Ticket booked weeks in advance, I was determined to make it to the talk at the Sarabande Foundation. Was kinda old school asking people along the way for directions, calling Toni to get google maps directions from her when needed— a 16 minute walk, 2 trains (District line then White chapel line) and a 13 minute final walk to the location from the station. I followed a couple French gals plus and Aussi overhearing them mention the talk. Mainly a fashion and art school crowd of students, always an inspiration checking out what the twenty-thirty somethings throw on for street style. A fight to stay awake, the last thing i remember fashion designer Daniel Roseberry of Schiaparelli say (before catching myself falling sleep and falling off my chair) is (fast) fashion did not learn from the pandemic.
The way back was now familiar. After 9pm, the streets had people activity along the way. Back in my Santa Monica, California neighborhood things are pretty dark and quiet at that hour except for the let's take the dogs out for a quick pee neighbors. Thinking of home and so happy to be here in London.
